Police Allege Airbnb Host Took Over 2,000 Images of Guests Naked, Having Sex

Mar 9, 2022

A Texas Airbnb host faces 15 counts of invasive visual recording following lawsuits filed by guests accusing the man of invasion of privacy and intentionally inflicting emotional distress. A Jay Allee, 54, was initially arrested on November 20, 2021, and charged with four counts of invasive visual recording – a felony in the state of Texas. Allee was then arrested a second time in December on additional charges of the same offense, according to a report from local KSAT.

Allee is accused of secretly taping guests at his Kendall County, Texas, Airbnb vacation rental property. Business Insider reported that police obtained approximately 2,100 images of guests naked and having sex.

A camera disguised as a power adapter facing the cabin’s bed was discovered by a couple staying at the secluded property near San Antonio, according to a report by The Sun. The device, which captured images and videos of unsuspecting Airbnb guests, had reportedly been in place for nine months.

An arrest warrant affidavit indicated that while a woman was showering, a man claimed he spotted the ostensible “charger” device which looked suspicious. The affidavit further states that the couple “felt uncomfortable when Allee allegedly told them to watch the sunrise in pajamas or nude,” according to The Sun.

The man who was renting the Airbnb Texas property “searched the cabin to see if there was anything unusual and Googled how to find hidden devices,” The Sun reported.

The San Antonio Express-News confirmed that Kendall County Sheriffs launched an investigation which determined that Allee had allegedly filmed guests for at least a year. After discovering the camera and a router which was attached to the device, police reportedly seized various pieces of evidence from the Airbnb property, including:

  • Laptops
  • Phones
  • A tablet

Allee’s defense attorney, Nico LaHood, stated that his client maintains his innocence, according to The Sun’s report.

He is looking forward to his day in court,” LaHood said, while advising his client the litigation process would be “a marathon, not a sprint.”

The Sun report confirmed that a civil lawsuit filed in December revealed that Allee was both an “Airbnb superhost” and a “Vrbo premier host.”

In a statement to KSAT, Airbnb asserted:

“On our platform, we strictly ban hidden cameras … The reported criminal behavior of this bed-and-breakfast owner is outrageous, and he and his property are banned from Airbnb. Our law enforcement operations team has been working to support the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office in their investigation.”
