Yessenia Garcia, a Santa Ana High School teacher, was arrested Friday for allegedly engaging in an ongoing sexual relationship with an underage student.
The Santa Ana Police Department received a call regarding an “inappropriate relationship” between a teacher and a student. Officers responded to Santa Ana High School at 520 W. Walnut Street where the victim, a 17-year-old student, reportedly told police he had been having sexual relations with Garcia for approximately six months.
The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Yessenia Navarro Garcia of Orange, was taken into custody on Saturday. Garcia had been employed as a full-time choir teacher at Santa Ana High School for approximately five years.
As investigators spoke with the 17-year-old victim and senior at the high school, a disturbing pattern of months-long sexual abuse came to light.
Police reportedly instructed the victim to text Garcia, requesting a meeting at a location in Santa Ana. She was taken into custody by police officers upon her arrival.
During questioning, Garcia reportedly admitted to all of the sexual acts described by the victim, providing damning evidence for the prosecution.
Detectives with the Santa Ana Police Department indicated they believe Garcia may have victimized other minors. Investigators are urging anyone with additional information about the case or potential unidentified sexual abuse victims to come forward and report information by calling (714) 245-8379.
Following her arrest, Yessenia Garcia was booked into the Santa Ana Jail on multiple sexual assault-related charges. Bail was set at $100,000.
If convicted, Garcia faces potential imprisonment, loss of her teaching license, and lifelong registration as a sex offender.
