Good Samaritan TikToker Helps Police Capture Suspected Child Predator in Long Beach

Feb 13, 2024

A local man has amassed a considerable following as a social media star by way of exposing suspected child predators. Known on TikTok and Instagram as “Black Biden,” the area resident recently helped police catch a suspected perpetrator in Long Beach.

Fox 11 and KTLA both reported on the arrest after video was posted on Black Biden’s social media page showing a suspected child predator running “chaotically through a Carl’s Jr. fast food restaurant as officers try to capture him.”

The suspect, later identified as Cody Lane Oreiro, 41, of Hawthorne, was arrested on charges of arranging a meeting with a minor for lewd purposes and resisting a police officer. The video shows the good Samaritan TikTok star aid Long Beach Police officials in tackling the suspected child predator to the ground.

Black Biden “spends his time setting up potential suspects through online messaging where he poses as an underage boy or girl. When a suspect agrees to meet with him, he will contact authorities and record the moment officers arrive to confront and arrest the suspect,” KTLA reported.

“I have caught over 156 guys who have tried to come out to harm kids,” Black Biden said to KTLA. “And it’s only been a year. Many convictions, but the laws are just still not strict enough for these guys.”

You try to harm a child – I take that very seriously,” Black Biden added in an interview with Fox 11. “Not today. Not on Black Biden’s watch,” the TikTok star said.

Black Biden further explained the process of luring Oreiro to the restaurant, telling Fox 11 that he “turned the tables” on the suspect by posing as a 15-year-old online and then arranging a “date.”

“[We have] accounts set up on dating sites and regular social media sites – the ones all kids tend to use. And the profile that we have is obviously a young person. The [suspects] hit up the profile, wants to start texting. We then reveal to them that we’re not actually an 18-year-old, but we’re 13 or 14,” he told KTLA.

If the person suspected to be a child predator continues the conversation at that point, Black Biden told KTLA he will arrange a meeting and contact police to come make an arrest.

“As soon as the suspect realized he was being set up, he tried to bolt out of the restaurant. Local police and Black Biden went after the man trying to take him into custody,” Fox 11 reported.

I tripped him, he calls and the officers catch back up to them,” the TikToker/Instagrammer added in the interview with Fox.

The suspected child predator attempts to grab a gun from one of the Long Beach police officers at one point in the video, but no one was seriously hurt and the suspect was eventually subdued and taken into custody, Fox 11 confirmed.

The good Samaritan told KTLA that he planned to “continue tracking suspects down until laws become stricter on such crimes,” adding that his goal is to “just try to protect the kids.”

Online Child Predators Becoming More Sophisticated

Online Child Predators Becoming More Sophisticated
Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) has garnered headlines in recent years with the expansion of artificial intelligence and more sophisticated types of scams – often targeting teenage boys.

The FBI warns that:

“Due to rapid technological changes, online child sexual exploitation offenses are increasing in scale and complexity. Individuals who seek to sexually exploit children through CSAM can do so from anywhere in the world by using digital devices and the internet. Modern smartphones are the ideal child exploitation tool for offenders, as they can be used to photograph, record, or watch live child sexual abuse; store CSAM on the device; access CSAM stored remotely; connect with victims and other offenders; and distribute and receive CSAM, through an endless variety of applications. The device itself and the applications often cloak this criminal activity with encryption.”

A new study from Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI) found that a large percentage of financial sextortion scams are driven by a “non-organized cybercriminal group in West Africa” who call themselves “Yahoo Boys.”

NCRI’s study concluded that the Yahoo Boys cybercriminals used the following social apps when conducting sextortion schemes:

  • Instagram
  • Snapchat
  • Wizz

The Yahoo Boys network reportedly uses these platforms to “find and connect with their marks.

NCRI’s study further found that the Yahoo Boys promote their tactics and recruit new gang members by publishing training videos and guides for running a financial sextortion scam on platforms including TikTok, Scribd, and YouTube.

How to Protect Your Kids from CSAM and Sextortion Scams

The FBI encourages parents to take steps in an effort to protect their children and advise kids to use apps and platforms with caution:

  • Be selective about what you share online, especially your personal information and passwords. If your social media accounts are open to everyone, a predator may be able to figure out a lot of information about you or your children.
  • Be wary of anyone you encounter for the first time online. Block or ignore messages from strangers.
  • Be aware that people can pretend to be anything or anyone online. Videos and photos are not proof that a person is who they claim to be.
  • Be suspicious if you meet someone on a game or app and they ask you to start talking to them on a different platform.

If your child has been victimized by an online predator, filing a civil claim with Dordulian Law Group’s sexual abuse attorneys can be a means of securing justice as well as maximum financial compensation.
