Police Release Suspect Sketch After Gray Whale Cove State Beach Sexual Assault

A suspect is being sought by law enforcement officials following a sexual assault which occurred this past weekend at the Gray Whale Cove State Beach on the San Mateo County coast. The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the sexual assault took place at around 4 p.m. on February 11.

Investigators indicated that a woman was sexually assaulted on the stairwell leading to the beach.

A description of the suspect was also released:

  • White adult male
  • In his 30s
  • Approximately 5 feet, 7 inches tall
  • Slightly overweight with a “beer belly”
  • Dark brown hair
  • Medium-length brown beard

At the time of the incident, the Gray Whale Cove State Beach sexual assault suspect was wearing:

  • A dark navy-blue spandex style tight shirt
  • Baggy cotton jogger pants
  • No socks
  • No shoes

Additionally, the suspect was carrying a black backpack at the time of the assault, according to law enforcement officials.

Authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the sexual assault suspect, and noted that the investigation is ongoing. February 4 Sexual Assault at Will Rogers State Beach; Police Searching for Suspect

Earlier this month, an attempted sexual assault occurred at Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades. The incident happened in the early evening hours of February 4, and Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officials released the following sketch of the suspect:

The Will Rogers State Beach sexual assault suspect is described as:

  • Latino
  • 20 to 30 years old
  • 5 feet, 7 inches tall
  • 150 to 160 pounds
  • Black hair
  • Brown eyes
  • Last seen wearing a navy blue zip-up jacket with dark pants and a tan hat

LAPD officials are urging anyone with information about the attempted sexual assault to call Special Assault Detectives at 213-473-0447.

LAPD Issues Precautions for Area Hikers After Multiple Sexual Assaults

In December 2022, following a number of sexual assaults of women along hiking trails, the LAPD announced the following recommended precautions:

  • Hikers should travel in pairs and carry a cellphone in case of emergency.
  • Hikers should always be aware of their surroundings.
  • Hikers should always let others know in advance where they are going.

Police officials announced that they were increasing patrols along Southern California hiking trails, but urged everyone to remain vigilant.
