Additional Los Angeles-Area Sexual Assaults Recently Reported

Tuesday’s apparent kidnapping and sexual assault of a 14-year-old victim is unfortunately one of multiple local incidents recently reported to law enforcement officials. Last week, we posted a blog concerning a 22-year-old Santa Paula, California man who was arrested and charged in connection with two separate sexual assaults of local women.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the suspect – Eliel Mejia – was arrested on September 30, a day after a woman reported that she had been approached by him and “lured into his truck at Plaza Park.”

Authorities connected Mejia to a second incident allegedly involving a sexual assault which is believed to have occurred on September 13. Ventura County Sheriff’s officials said that after driving a woman to an orchard in an unincorporated area east of Ventura, Mejia “forcefully sexually assaulted” the victim.

In both instances, the suspect is alleged to have lured the victims into his truck under the pretense of smoking marijuana. During the separate assaults, two pit bulls were reportedly with Mejia inside the truck – seemingly in an effort to intimidate the unsuspecting victims.

As of last week, law enforcement officials indicated that Mejia was expected to face multiple charges, including:

  • Sexual assault
  • Assault with a deadly weapon
  • Criminal threats

Anyone with information related to a sexual assault that may have been committed by Eliel Mejia is urged to contact Detective DeLaCerda of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office via 805-384-4724.
