Ray Crummitt, Chino Elementary School Teacher, Arrested for Alleged Abuse of Student

Mar 7, 2024

A local elementary school teacher has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a student. Chino elementary teacher Ray Crummitt, a 62-year-old resident of West Covina, was taken into custody after the city’s Police Department School Resources Officers received a complaint.

Yesterday, Chino City officials announced that the alleged student abuse incident had occurred Monday at EJ Marshall Elementary School.

Crummitt was identified as the suspect after being reported as having physically assaulted a student in the classroom. The Chino Police Department reportedly conducted a further investigation into the allegations against Crummitt, ultimately leading to his arrest.

Although the teacher-on-student abuse incident is reported to have occurred at EJ Marshall Elementary School, Crummitt’s Facebook page lists his occupation as “Special Education Teacher at Canyon View School” and as a graduate of Cantwell High School.

Ray Crummitt was booked into the West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of child abuse. Various news outlets confirmed that he has been placed on administrative leave by the Chino Valley Unified School District.

The Chino Valley Unified School District released the following statement following the arrest of elementary teacher Ray Crummitt:

As you know, this is a current investigation, and the District is limited in what it can comment on. However, the Chino Valley Unified School District is committed to providing all students with a safe and positive school environment where they can flourish. District and school leadership are grateful for the collaborative relationship shared with the local law enforcement agencies CVUSD partners with, and will continue to labor with personnel to ensure students are protected.

Additional details regarding the alleged Chino elementary school classroom abuse have not been released by the police department.

Law enforcement officials are asking anyone with additional information to contact Chino Police Department Detective Sergeant Johnson at 909-334-3167 or Mjohnson@chinopd.org.
