Sexual Abuse Lawsuit Settlement Reached Between Marilyn Manson and Esme Bianco

Jan 26, 2023

An out-of-court settlement has been reached in the federal sexual assault lawsuit filed by “Game of Thrones” actor Esme Bianco against rocker Marilyn Manson and his record company, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

The federal complaint, filed in Los Angeles in 2021, alleged Manson inflicted “sexual, physical, and emotional abuse” on Bianco.

Attorneys for both sides confirmed the settlement Wednesday, with Bianco’s representative telling the AP by email that the agreement was reached “in order to move on with her life and career.

Neither teams disclosed the details of the settlement, according to a report from The Guardian.

In the complaint, Bianco said Manson – legal name Brian Warner – violated human trafficking law by bringing her to California from England in 2009 and 2011 “under the false pretenses of roles in music videos and movies that never materialized,” according to the AP.

“‘By inserting himself in Ms. Bianco’s visa process, Mr. Warner was able to control Ms. Bianco by threatening to withdraw support if she displeased him,’ the lawsuit said, adding that Manson had violated California’s human trafficking laws by allegedly locking Bianco in a bedroom at one point and forcing her to cook and clean for free,” The Guardian’s report confirmed.

The complaint further alleged rape and sexual battery on the part of Manson.

“Mr. Warner raped Ms. Bianco in or around May 2011,” the federal lawsuit said. The complaint additionally alleged Manson had sexually battered Bianco, specifically by “spanking, biting, cutting, and whipping Ms. Bianco’s buttocks, breasts, and genitals for Mr. Warner’s sexual gratification – all without the consent of plaintiff,” The Guardian reported.

Manson’s legal team initially denied the accusations, referring to them as “provably false.

To be clear, this suit was only filed after my client refused to be shaken down by Ms. Bianco and her lawyer and give in to their outrageous financial demands based on conduct that simply never occurred. We will vigorously contest these allegations in court and are confident that we will prevail,” Manson’s legal representatives said in a statement around the time of the 2021 federal court filing.

The AP reported that one additional sexual assault lawsuit against Manson remains open, while two others – one filed by a former assistant, the other by a model – were dismissed by judges.

The Cut also reported that a number of other women have filed similar lawsuits against Manson in recent years.

“More than a dozen women have accused Manson of sexual abuse in recent years, including the actress Evan Rachel Wood, who alleges he drugged, battered, and raped her. Four of these accusers have filed lawsuits against him (two of which have been dismissed), all telling similar stories that involve being tortured with an electric device, whipped, and locked in a room. Manson has denied all the accusations, calling them ‘horrible distortions of reality‘ that misrepresent consensual relationships,” The Cut said.

California AB 2777 Opens 3-Year Window for Sexual Assault Claims

Under a new California law – Assembly Bill 2777 (AB 2777) – adult survivors of sexual assault have the opportunity to file civil claims for financial compensation without being barred by the statute of limitations. AB 2777 opens a three-year window for any sexual assault or sex crime which occurred on or after January 1, 2009. Accordingly, survivors may now file civil lawsuits against perpetrators seeking to recover various damages, such as:

  • Pain and suffering
  • Emotional trauma
  • Psychological distress
  • Counseling and therapy expenses (past and future)
  • Related medical care costs (past and future)
  • Punitive damages
  • Lost wages and/or diminished future earning capacity
  • Reduced quality of life
  • Prescription drug costs (past and future)
  • Filing a sexual assault civil lawsuit can be an avenue which allows survivors to secure justice while also obtaining financial compensation for harm endured. From now until December 31, 2026, any adult survivor of California sexual assault may file a claim for an incident which occurred on or after January 1, 2009.
