New England Patriots reserve offensive tackle, Justin Herron, has been deemed a hero by police after saving a 71-year-old retired schoolteacher from an attempted sexual assault. Last Saturday, Herron and another man, Murry Rogers, were walking in a Tempe, Arizona, public park when they heard screams for help. The two men ran towards the commotion and reportedly witnessed 30-year-old Kevin Caballero push a woman to the ground and attempt to remove her pants.
Herron and Rogers confronted the perpetrator, yelling at Caballero to stop before physically pulling him off of the woman. “I just knew in that moment that I had to go,” Herron said. After the attacker was pulled away from the woman, Herron and Rogers reportedly confronted the man, ensuring he did not leave the scene. Herron then escorted the woman a safe distance from the attacker until authorities arrived.
“You see it in movies and TV all the time, but you never think it’s going to happen in real life until it does. In that moment, I was in shock,” Herron said during a press conference with Rogers on Wednesday. “It was 11 a.m., middle of the day, in a very open field and the fact that it happened there at that time was just very shocking. I wish I could tell you what I was thinking, but I could just tell someone needed help. All I could do was rush myself over there to make sure I could help the victim and I could comfort her and be the best person I can be.”

Herron just completed his rookie season as an offensive lineman with the New England Patriots. He is listed as 6’5″ and 308 pounds, and credited his size as a factor in the rescue when speaking with reporters at the press conference. “I’m a football player; I’m kind of big,” he said.
The two Good Samaritans were presented with Outstanding Service Awards by the Tempe Police Department. Yahoo! Sports reported that both Herron and Rogers met with the woman this week, and she referred to the two men as “her angels.” “She thanked us. She called us her angels,” Murry Rogers said. “I’m a little bit of a crier, so it was very emotional.”
Caballero was arrested and reportedly faces charges of kidnapping and attempt to commit sexual assault. He’s currently being held on a $500,000 bond. The investigation into the attack is reportedly ongoing, according to police. “If not for the swift actions of Mr. Justin Herron and Mr. Murry Rogers, this vicious attack could’ve been much worse,” Tempe Police Detective Natalie Barela said in a public statement.
