Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs faces a number of serious sexual assault allegations included in various civil lawsuits as well as a federal sex-trafficking investigation.

Following a December 2023 civil action filed in New York, Diddy issued a denial to PEOPLE magazine refuting any allegations of sexual assault or misconduct:

“ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. For the last couple of weeks, I have sat silently and watched people try to assassinate my character, destroy my reputation and my legacy,” he said.

“Sickening allegations have been made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday. Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family and for the truth,” Diddy added.

But last week, video footage of Diddy physically assaulting former girlfriend Cassie was released by CNN. Days later, the music mogul issued a public apology taking “full responsibility” for his actions.

I’m so sorry. But I’m committed to be a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry,” he said.

Sean Diddy Combs has had a long history of sexual assault allegations which predate the federal raids carried out at his Los Angeles and Miami homes on March 25, 2024. This blog will include a timeline of Diddy’s sexual violence allegations as well as a listing of the civil lawsuits filed against him by victims – both women and men.

Timeline of Sexual Assault Allegations and Lawsuits Against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs

  • 1991 Intentional Drugging & Sexual Assault Claim: Joi Dickerson-Neal alleges that in 1991, Diddy intentionally drugged her while on a date in Harlem as a 19-year-old college student. Dickerson-Neal also alleges Diddy took her home and sexually assaulted her, recording the incident and later sharing it with several friends in the music industry. Dickerson-Neal filed a lawsuit in November 2023, prompting his defense attorneys to issue motions for claims such as revenge porn and human trafficking to be dismissed with prejudice. Attorneys for Combs indicated that the rationale behind the move for dismissal was that those claims were not under law when the alleged incident occurred (rather than denying that they ever took place).
  • 2017 Sexual Harassment Lawsuit: In 2017, Diddy was hit with a civil lawsuit by his former chef – Cindy Rueda. In the claim, Rueda sued Diddy for sexual harassment, retaliation, defamation, failure to pay overtime, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. In February 2019, the lawsuit was settled for an undisclosed amount.
  • 2023 Sexual Assault Lawsuit Brought by Singer Cassie: In November 2023, R&B singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura filed a civil lawsuit against Diddy alleging years of sexual violence including beatings and rapes. The suit was filed on November 16 and settled for an undisclosed amount just one day later. Following the agreement being made public, Diddy’s defense attorney, Ben Brafman, issued a statement declaring that settling the lawsuit “… is in no way an admission of wrongdoing. Mr. Combs’ decision to settle the lawsuit does not in any way undermine his flat-out denial of the claims.”
  • Third Sexual Assault Lawsuit in November 2023: The same day that Joi Dickerson-Neal filed her sexual assault lawsuit against Diddy, a third woman (Cassie being the second) filed a civil action against the music mogul in New York County Supreme Court. The plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe in the suit, alleged that Diddy and singer-songwriter Aaron Hall took turns raping her and a friend in New York City. The incident is alleged to have occurred over 30 years ago, and was filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act revival window. At the time of the lawsuit’s filing, a spokesperson for Diddy called the action “nothing but a money grab.”
  • Fourth Sexual Assault/Sex-Trafficking Lawsuit in December 2023: In December of last year, Diddy was hit with another sexual assault lawsuit – again filed in New York. This suit, filed by plaintiff Jane Doe, alleged sex trafficking and gang rape by Diddy and Bad Boy Entertainment President Harve Pierre. Jane Doe alleges that, when she was 17 years old, the two men gave her drugs and alcohol before they “viciously” gang raped her.
  • Male Record Producer Accuses Diddy of Sexual Assault in February 2024 Lawsuit: In February, a former producer and videographer for Diddy – Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones – filed a lawsuit in New York federal court. The civil lawsuit accuses Diddy of sexual harassment, drugging, and various threats by the music mogul. The incidents are alleged to have occurred from September 2022 to November 2023 while Jones was working on Diddy’s Love album. Diddy’s former producer and videographer is seeking $30 million in damages via the civil action.

Lawsuits Filed Against Diddy Under State Revival Windows

In recent years, several states have passed laws enabling survivors of sexual assault with windows to file civil lawsuits against their perpetrators – even for crimes which occurred decades ago and would otherwise be barred by the statute of limitations.

New York’s Adult Survivors Act – which was open from November 2022 to November 2023 – was a critical piece of legislation allowing the aforementioned women to bring their sexual assault and sex-trafficking lawsuits against Diddy.

In California, a similar window is currently open which allows adults who were sexually assaulted in 2009 or later to file their lawsuits for damages. The law – known as the California Sexual Abuse and Cover-up Accountability Act – gives any adult survivor (meaning you were 18 years or older at the time of the crime) the opportunity to file a civil lawsuit through the deadline – December 31, 2026.
