Two people were killed and another person was injured in the early morning hours Wednesday when a corvette crashed into a median and landed in a backyard swimming pool in Chino.
The Los Angeles Times reported that police were called to the scene at about 2:20 a.m. to investigate the single-car crash near the intersection of Schaefer and East End avenues.
Responders determined that the vehicle was heading south on Schaefer when it struck a center median, launching it through the air until it eventually plunged into the home’s pool. The crash damaged a perimeter wall, and the force ejected all three occupants, according to Sergeant Jesus Jacquez of the Chino Police Department.
A 21-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others – a 27-year-old man and 23-year-old woman – were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
A witness, Deborah Laugherty, heard the crash, according to NBC 4.
“I didn’t hear like a screeching or anything like that like they tried to stop, then I got up and a little bit later I saw flashing lights,” she said.
The male driver later died. The lone survivor is reportedly at the hospital in an unknown condition, according to officials. None of the victims have been identified.

The Los Angeles Times reported that footage taken by KTTV-TV showed a badly damaged orange car overturned in a swimming pool with wreckage strewn about.
Sergeant Jesus Jacquez indicated it’s not yet clear what caused the crash.
“Because of the magnitude of the traffic collision and it being a fatal investigation at this point, investigators will definitely be doing their due diligence,” Jacquez said.
According to local NBC 4, street racing is a major problem at this particular location, and drivers will often speed around the tight bend.
“Trust me, it worries me very much,” Maria Jasso, a local resident, told NBC. “My son’s house is right on the corner.”
Chino police confirmed to NBC 4 that if neighbors call them with any related safety concerns, they promise to take swift action.
“The more they call, the more exposure that intersection is going to get,” Sergeant Jesus Jacquez said.
Although authorities have yet to determine the cause of the crash, the fact that the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed (i.e. reckless driving) could mean liability was involved.
